The progress of basic sanitation in Brazil depends directly on consistent investments in infrastructure and technology. In Rio das Ostras (RJ), this movement has gained national prominence: the municipality has become one of the largest per capita investors in sanitation in the country, driven by projects carried out by Rio+ Saneamento. Part of this progress also includes the participation of Hidro Solo, whose filtration technologies — such as the Confined Flow Underdrains with Pluvitec Blocks and Pluvitec Nozzles — are integrated into filter retrofit projects in Water Treatment Plants (WTPs), helping to improve treatment efficiency and water security in the region.

According to a survey released based on data from the National Sanitation Information System (Sinisa), Rio das Ostras has taken a prominent position among Brazilian municipalities that invest the most in sanitation per inhabitant. The resources invested reflect a growing effort to modernize water infrastructure and expand the quality of water supply services.

Among the actions carried out are structural improvements in intake systems, network expansions, and investments in the modernization of Water Treatment Plants, which play a central role in ensuring safe drinking water for the population. These initiatives reinforce the importance of technologies capable of making treatment more efficient, safer, and economically sustainable.

Filter modernization and efficiency in water treatment

Within this context, the modernization of WTP filters has become one of the most relevant strategies to increase water treatment efficiency. More advanced filtration systems make it possible to improve impurity removal, reduce hydraulic losses, and ensure greater operational stability of treatment plants.

It is in this scenario that Hidro Solo’s technologies stand out. The company participates in filter retrofit projects through the application of Confined Flow Underdrains, composed of Pluvitec Blocks and Pluvitec Nozzles, solutions designed to improve the hydraulic and operational performance of sand filters used in WTPs.

These components allow a more uniform distribution of water across the filter media, while also enabling efficient air and water backwashing and reducing head loss during the filtration process. The result is a more stable system, with greater treatment capacity and reduced need for operational interventions.

Technology serving sanitation

Investments made in cities such as Rio das Ostras demonstrate that the advancement of sanitation in Brazil depends on the combination of infrastructure, planning, and high-performance technology. Filter modernization and the adoption of more efficient technical solutions are essential steps to ensure treated water with quality and safety for the population.

By participating in filter retrofit projects in WTPs through Pluvitec Blocks and Nozzles, Hidro Solo reinforces its commitment to the development of the sanitation sector. With a presence in several water treatment projects across the country, the company contributes to more efficient systems prepared to meet growing water supply demands.

More than equipment, Hidro Solo delivers solutions that help strengthen water security, improve the performance of Water Treatment Plants, and expand the population’s access to high-quality treated water.
