The delivery of high-quality treated water to the population is one of the main priorities for urban development and public health assurance. The construction of the Melvi Water Treatment Plant (ETA Melvi), located in Praia Grande and São Vicente, represents a milestone in this context, strengthening water security for more than 650,000 people in the Baixada Santista region and creating space for technologies that optimize the entire treatment process.

ETA Melvi, a project developed by Sabesp, involves an investment of approximately BRL 150 million and is being built in a modular format to expand the capacity for treating water sourced from different points across the region. Scheduled for completion in 2027, the plant will have the capacity to treat approximately 1,270 liters of water per second, ensuring greater stability and quality in water supply.

As part of this major water infrastructure effort for the region, Hidro Solo contributes through a robust and strategic application: the use of more than 15,000 Pluvitec Underdrains in the plant’s filters. These solutions are integrated into the sand filters of water treatment plants and play an essential role in hydraulic efficiency, filtration uniformity, and backwashing effectiveness.

Quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in water treatment

Pluvitec Blocks and Underdrains, developed by Hidro Solo, are designed to ensure uniform water distribution across the filter bed and superior performance during air-and-water backwashing. This technology delivers technical benefits that positively impact the entire treatment system:

  • Reduced head loss: improves the hydraulic performance of the filter.

  • Filtration uniformity: maximizes solid removal capacity.

  • Efficient backwashing: reduces maintenance time and frequency.

  • Greater operational reliability: fewer shutdowns and more treated water delivered to the population.

These advantages directly contribute to a more stable, cost-effective system with lower operational costs over time — a decisive factor in large-scale projects such as ETA Melvi.

Hidro Solo and the universalization of sanitation

Hidro Solo’s participation in these systems is not an isolated case. The company is present in dozens of water treatment projects throughout Brazil, providing solutions for both public utilities and private sanitation companies, contributing to the advancement of universal access to basic sanitation in the country.

By integrating technologies such as Pluvitec Blocks and Underdrains into large water treatment plants, Hidro Solo reinforces its commitment to treated water quality, sustainability, and the development of solutions tailored to regional needs.
